In one of the largest doping scandals in India, more than 20 athletes, including prominent weightlifter Vandana Gupta, have tested positive for banned drugs during the National Games in Goa held in October-November. Most offenders, including track and field athletes and international players, have been provisionally suspended by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA). Vandana Gupta, a double bronze-medal winner in the Commonwealth Championships, is among the seven weightlifters facing doping charges. The total count surpasses previous instances, with 16 cases reported in the 2015 National Games in Kerala and 10 in the 2022 edition in Gujarat.
