The University Grants Commission (UGC) has declared the MPhil degree invalid and issued a warning to universities to discontinue admissions in the MPhil program, citing clause 14 of the Commission. The Secretary, Manish Joshi, issued a notification in response to complaints about certain universities inviting fresh applications for the M.Phil. (Master of Philosophy) program. The UGC emphasized that the M.Phil. degree is not recognized, and regulations prohibit the offering of M.Phil. programs by higher educational institutions.
