A study conducted by the Indian Medical Association’s Goa unit reveals that doctors face a higher risk of suicide compared to the general population. The study also notes that 42% of physicians in the state exhibit symptoms of burnout, with depression and anxiety being common mental health struggles. Factors contributing to this situation include work-related stress, long working hours, constant on-call availability, administrative burdens, emotional strain from witnessing suffering and death, and limited control over complex systems such as insurance.
