Assam Flood Crisis Worsens: More Than 6 Lakh Affected Across 19 Districts

The flood situation in Assam turned dire on Monday, affecting over 6.44 lakh people across 19 districts. At least eight rivers, including the Brahmaputra breaching its highest flood level at Nematighat in Jorhat district, were flowing above the danger mark. Multiple agencies, such as the NDRF, SDRF, army, air force, and local administration, are actively engaged in rescue operations, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) bulletin. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have assured Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of their full support in relief operations amidst the flood crisis in Assam. The death toll from this year’s floods, storms, and landslides has risen to 45, according to the latest bulletin.
