The Central government has taken action in response to the rising number of dog attack incidents by addressing the issue through a directive to state governments. They have urged states to implement a ban on the import, sale, and breeding of certain dog breeds deemed dangerous in India. These banned breeds include Pitbulls, Rottweilers, Terriers, Mastiffs, and their cross-breeds.Â
The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying has issued a letter to all states, emphasizing the importance of refraining from granting licenses or permits for the sale or breeding of these prohibited dogs. Additionally, pet owners who already possess these banned breeds are encouraged to have their pets sterilized to prevent further breeding.
