A village panchayat in Chhattisgarh, known as Patora Gram Panchayat, has initiated innovative projects to promote environmental sustainability.
One notable initiative is the “Bartan Bank” (Utensil Bank), which provides free utensils for village functions, reducing the use of disposable plastic cups and plates. Started in 2021 with an initial investment of Rs 35,000, the Bartan Bank has become a model for 70-80 villages in Chhattisgarh.
The panchayat also collaborates with self-help groups for garbage collection, with collected plastic being used to create eco-friendly bricks. Additionally, the village boasts India’s first sewerage treatment plant using gravitational force technology. These initiatives highlight the village’s commitment to environmental conservation.
