Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has expressed his support and approval for the decision by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to extend the ban on the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) for an additional five years under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Sawant welcomed the move, stating that it reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to ‘zero’ tolerance for terrorism.
The ban on SIMI has been extended based on its continued involvement in activities that disrupt peace, communal harmony, and pose a threat to the sovereignty, security, and integrity of India.
The extension comes after the organization has faced various criminal cases, including those under the UAPA.
