Dhaktembhat, Dongorim of Azossim-Mandur Faces Worm-Infested Water Emergency, Residents Call for Comprehensive Health Checkups

Residents in Dhaktembhat, Dongorim, part of the Azossim-Mandur panchayat, have been grappling with the alarming issue of receiving worm-infested water.

In response, authorities provided tanker supply to the affected area on Friday evening, concurrent with inspections of the corroded pipeline by PWD officials. Despite repairs made promptly after the contamination was detected on Sunday, concerns remain regarding follow-up actions concerning health and water supply matters.

Ramrao Wagh, a local politician, highlighted that while more than 80 households may have received polluted water due to a damaged pipeline located approximately 1km from Ramkrishna Kurtikar’s residence, only Kurtikar filed a complaint with the chief medical officer (CMO) at the Corlim health center.

The Kurtikar family has sought a health checkup, citing symptoms of vomiting and dizziness experienced by their family members. Villagers emphasized the importance of a comprehensive health checkup for all residents who may have consumed the contaminated water.

St. Andre MLA Viresh Borkar pledged to prioritize the replacement of the corroded pipeline and assured the provision of tanker water to the affected area. Sarpanch Prashant Naik expressed gratitude for the timely repairs conducted by the PWD and stated readiness to await reports from both the PWD and health department.
