Dr. Shekhar Salkar has expressed the view that patients facing incurable illnesses should have the right to plan their own death. In a media statement, Dr. Salkar mentioned, “Patients with incurable diseases can determine their destiny of ‘Dying with Dignity’ through the use of ‘Advance Medical Directive.'”
He went on to highlight that the Supreme Court has provided guidelines in this regard, and the Indian Medical Association (IMA) in Goa is committed to assisting the state in formulating similar guidelines within the next 6 months.
