Expert Committee to Investigate Kalasa-Bhandura Project’s Impact on Environment and Wildlife

The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has appointed a committee of experts to research and report on the environmental and wildlife impacts of the Kalasa-Bhandura project. The committee will conduct an on-site inspection at the damming and diversion schemes in the forested areas of Khanapur taluka in Belagavi district, Karnataka. The Goa forest department’s wildlife division has issued a show-cause notice to Karnataka regarding the project, which aims to divert the natural flow of water to the Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary in Goa. The NTCA has emphasized the need for a wildlife conservation plan considering the potential impact on landscape integrity.
