Opposition parties in Goa, including Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, Goa Forward Party, and Revolutionary Goans Party, have issued a warning to boycott the upcoming legislative assembly session. The threat stems from concerns that the Speaker is deviating from the convention of allowing one question from the ruling party and another from the opposition during the Question Hour.

At a meeting held in Porvorim on Monday, the opposition leaders expressed dissatisfaction with the decision to permit mixed questions, limiting the opposition’s ability to adequately address their concerns on the floor. Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao stated that unless the old convention is reinstated, the opposition parties are prepared to boycott the session.

Highlighting the numerical advantage of ruling members in the Assembly, Goa Forward party chief Vijai Sardesai supported the decision to boycott, emphasizing the challenges opposition faces in getting their questions adequately discussed. The six-day-long session of the Goa assembly is scheduled to commence from February 2.
