Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that the Goa Police will implement three new criminal laws starting July 1. At a recent review meeting chaired by Director of the National Crime Records Bureau, Vivek Gogia, Director General of Police (DGP) Jaspal Singh confirmed the preparedness of the police force for this transition.
The implementation of the new laws will replace three long-standing criminal codes: the Indian Penal Code 1861, the Criminal Procedure Code 1973, and the Indian Evidence Act 1872. These will be succeeded by the Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Samhita, Bhartiya Sakshya Samhita, and Bhartiya Nyaya Samhita, respectively. The new legislation is expected to modernize and enhance the criminal justice system in Goa.
