Goa Tourism Minister, Rohan Khaunte, has launched the concept of ‘Regenerative Tourism,’ focusing on eleven spiritual sites and hinterland tourism. Khaunte emphasized the need for change in the approach to travel and tourism in the face of environmental fragility and societal imbalance. The regenerative tourism model will revolve around eleven spiritual sites, known as Ekadasha Teertha, encouraging local communities, especially women and youth, to explore, understand, and showcase their culture, cuisine, and lifestyle. The initiative aims to harness the commercial and economic potential of local history and heritage, fostering a holistic vision that recognizes the interconnectedness of nature, culture, and people. Regenerative tourism is seen as essential for mitigating negative impacts on the planet’s ecosystems and local communities, fostering a deeper connection between travelers and the places they visit.
