LPG dealers are prohibited from coercing consumers into linking their Aadhaar cards to their LPG connections, as there is no subsidy involved in the price paid, according to an advisory from Goa Civic and Consumer Action Network (GOACAN). The organization further cautioned all LPG dealers associated with BharatGas, HPGas, and Indane that they could face action under the Consumer Protection Act 2019 if they attempt to present this linking as ‘compulsory’ or enforce a December 31, 2023, deadline. GOACAN emphasized that there is no government notification mandating Aadhaar card linkage as compulsory.
