A Goan-origin Portuguese national, Ian Savio Rock Fernandes, has approached the High Court, challenging the rejection of his application for Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) registration.

Ian, who acquired Portuguese nationality through naturalization in 2013, applied to surrender his Indian passport after obtaining a Portuguese passport in 2022. 

However, the Foreigner Regional Registration Officer (OCI) rejected his application and revoked his passport. Ian filed a fresh OCI registration application in February 2023, but it was rejected, citing the revocation of his Indian passport. The High Court has scheduled a hearing for February 12.
