Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, has been sentenced to 10 years in jail for allegedly leaking state secrets. Khan, who is already serving a three-year jail term for corruption, has dismissed all charges as politically motivated.
The conviction under the Official Secrets Act comes just before general elections, where he is barred from standing.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the former foreign minister and vice-chairman of Imran Khan’s party, was also sentenced to 10 years in prison in the same case involving the leaking of secret diplomatic correspondence during Khan’s tenure as prime minister.
