The Central government has allocated a noteworthy Rs 100 crore grant to Goa University under the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan. The funding aims to support the university’s transformation into a Multi-Disciplinary Education and Research University (MERU).
Goa University plans to utilize the grant to enhance its distance education programs and boost the state’s gross enrolment ratio in higher education. Additionally, the university will establish bio, health, and IT incubators on campus.
Out of 78 universities that applied, only 26, including Goa University, received the Rs 100 crore grant, while the rest were granted Rs 20 crore each. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant expressed gratitude, stating that the funding would strengthen the university’s capacity and align with the objectives of the New Education Policy (NEP), 2020.
