In a strategic move, Rahul Gandhi has been announced as the Congress candidate from Raebareli, succeeding his mother Sonia Gandhi, who recently vacated the seat upon her move to the Rajya Sabha. The decision marks a significant shift from the expected bid to reclaim Amethi, which defected to the BJP five years ago.
In Amethi, the Congress will field Kishori Lal Sharma, a long-time loyalist of the Gandhi family, as their representative. Despite efforts, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra declined to contest from Raebareli, a constituency she had diligently nurtured for over a decade on behalf of her mother.
