Sugarcane Farmers Protesting at Azad Maidan Arrested While Marching Toward Chief Minister’s Residence in Altinho, Demanding Restart of Sanjivani Sugar Factory
The protest by sugarcane farmers, initially staged at Azad Maidan in Panaji, took a turn when demonstrators began marching towards the chief minister’s official residence at Altinho. The farmers are advocating for the reactivation of the Sanjivani Sugar Factory in Dayanandnagar, Usgao. Having commenced their agitation outside the factory premises on January 2, the protesters shifted their demonstration to Panaji, urging the chief minister’s visit and assurance. In a preventive measure, law enforcement took the protestors into custody. Social workers Pratima Coutinho and Rama Kankonkar were also among those arrested.
