Beginning in July, the Kadamba Bus Transport will discontinue its pass concession scheme for government employees, a benefit that was originally implemented during the tenure of late Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. This scheme provided subsidized transportation for employees of government departments, autonomous bodies, and corporations.
The reason cited for discontinuing the scheme is that pass holders are already receiving a transport allowance, which results in a perceived double benefit. With the end of this concession, hundreds of employees working in these sectors will now have to bear the full cost of their transportation to work.
This decision is expected to impact a significant number of employees who have relied on this scheme for affordable commuting. The government and transport authorities have not yet announced any alternative measures or support for the affected employees.
