Margao police have detained a 52-year-old woman for allegedly snatching a one-month-old infant from a couple residing on the footpath near the railway station.

Authorities revealed that the accused had initially befriended the couple, often offering them food. However, she later began pressuring them to hand over their baby daughter, even offering them Rs. 4 lakh, which the couple refused. 

Frustrated by their rejection, the accused seized the baby while the mother and child were sleeping near the station road two days ago, without the mother’s knowledge, and disappeared.

The police managed to locate the accused, identified as Almeida, in Navelim, where she was found with the infant. She was brought in for questioning, and the baby was safely reunited with her mother.
